The Japan Patent Office has released a report on “Investigative research on intellectual property issues facing startups” conducted in 2021.

Although I have not yet been able to read through all of the materials, I found that the section “5. Issues Related to Technology Transfer from Universities to Startups” in the “Domestic Hearing Survey for Support Organizations” contained many of the issues that I also feel through daily IP support for university-launched startup companies, as the name implies.

We believe that this report is a must-read for anyone currently involved in university startups in any capacity.
